I think I may gay. Who can I talk to about this?
Being a part of the LGBTQ community is absolutely okay! Whether you’re gay, lesbian, straight or bisexual, trans or cisgender (meaning your gender identity matches the sex you were assigned at birth), figuring out your sexual orientation and gender identity is something everyone does, especially as teens!
Remember that you have the right to choose if you want to come out as LGBTQ or not. A lot of times we have so many social pressures in our lives from our friends and family, and it can be difficult to come out if you don’t think the people in your life will accept you for who you are.
For more information on terms and definitions, sexual orientation, and LGBTQ issues, visit the Calgary Sexual Health Centre
If you’re looking for support, there are a lot of other great resources out there as well! Calgary Outlink runs their Inside Out Youth Group and the Out is OK Peer support line available daily at 1-877-OUT-IS-OK (1-877-688-4765).
