If you’re having thoughts of suicide, we want you to know that you are not alone. It’s common to have thoughts of ending your life when you’re feeling sad, depressed, or when you’re going through a really difficult time. Sometimes it can be hard to see an end to the pain you are feeling right now.
If you’re thinking of ending your life, we encourage you to reach out and talk to someone as soon as you can. Taking that first step and telling someone that you’ve been thinking of ending your life can be terrifying, but getting the support you need is worth it. A lot of times, talking to someone who doesn’t know you can be the easiest way to start and that’s why ConnecTeen is available 24/7 on our phone line at 403.264.TEEN (8336). You can also talk to someone on our confidential online chat.
Finding other supports in your life is also really important right now.
Do you have a parent you can talk to? Maybe a school counsellor? Talking to a doctor might also be a really good idea, especially if you’ve been feeling sad or depressed for a while.
Remembering to take care of yourself is also really important when you’re going through a hard time. This can be as simple as making sure you’re getting enough sleep and eating right. It may also mean distracting yourself for a while by watching TV or reading a book to take your mind off other things. A lot of people find that expressing themselves creatively is also something that helps, whether it’s drawing, journaling, or dancing. Whichever way you choose to take care of yourself, remember that it takes a lot of strength to handle thoughts of suicide and there are people out there who care about you.
