Can you believe it? Time goes by so quickly. Congratulations! You’re graduating. Its nerve racking knowing that this is it. That once you walk the stage you’re finished. All the hard work you have done over the years has come to this moment, graduation.

Are you worried about leaving? Are you getting bombarded with the question, “What are you going to do now?” It’s as if that is the only thing people can say now that you are graduating. Do you know what is next for you? What are your plans?

Can’t people just focus on the now and congratulate you for your accomplishment, instead of stressing you out about the future and looking for new possible accomplishments?

It’s difficult to leave something you have been doing for such a long time. High school comes with a certain level of comfort and stability, it has been something that has stayed so constant and now it’s finished. Even if you didn’t have work or activities outside school, school was always something that was there for you to do.

You might not know yet what you want to do after high school, and that’s okay! There is this pressure to follow the set norm of attending post-secondary right after high school, then getting a job and working, but that norm and expectation is so flawed.

How can this be the path everyone should be on when every person is different? Our path should be something that we choose freely, without pressure and expectation from others telling us what to do. Remember that if you know which is the path you want to take and you aren’t able to take it yet, because of money or other responsibilities, that’s okay!

Your life is a journey and everyone has their own ways of getting to where they want to be.

It’s okay if things don’t fall exactly into place exactly when you wanted it to. If you really want something, you will get there with motivation and hard work.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure of how to pursue what you want, we all need help and that’s okay. Try setting up a long term and short term list of goals to help you visualize what you want. Leaving high school is definitely scary, but believe in yourself and your capabilities.
