It’s finally here! Summertime.
And with it comes lots of long-anticipated free-time and relaxation. Wondering how you’re going to keep yourself busy during the summer months?
Here is a list of fun activities in and around Calgary to renew and refresh your mind following the past school year:
1. Hiking
Living near the mountains makes hiking a perfect summer activity to partake in during the summer months. Not only is it a great opportunity for fun, but it also is a fantastic source of exercise!
2. Rafting
If you’re looking for something to do where you can kick back and enjoy some relaxation in the sun, this is an infallible way to do that. Whether you own a raft already or are renting one, rafting down one of Calgary’s rivers is a classic summer activity you can do with friends or with family.
3. Going for Ice Cream
Who doesn’t enjoy ice cream on a hot day? Luckily, Calgary has an abundance of local ice cream parlours at various locations around the city – such as Village Ice Cream and Made By Marcus –to fill all of your ice cream demands!
4. Biking the Reservoir
Going for a bike ride around the Glenmore Reservoir is the perfect summer activity if you are looking to get some exercise outdoors. If you enjoy biking, try this route on the next clear, summer day you have to yourself!
5. Day Trip to Banff
People travel from all over the world to visit Banff. The shopping, beautiful scenery, and hot springs are just a few reasons to pick a day out of your summer to visit our neighbouring town.
6. Throwing A Barbecue
Having a barbecue and inviting your friends is a great social activity to partake in during the summer, when the evenings are warm enough to eat outdoors.
7. Having A Picnic In The Park
Similar to hosting a barbecue with friends, you can pack up some food and leave the house to have a picnic in one of Calgary’s many parks. It is a great way to get out of the house and hang out with friends.
8. Attending An Outdoor Movie
If you like movies, why not try watching one outside? There are various places around the city where you can find drive-ins and outdoor showings to attend. With some popcorn, blankets, and friends, attending an outdoor movie is a great activity for a summer night.
9. Paintball
If you are looking for a more adrenaline-inducing activity, there are an abundance of outdoor paintball places that you can visit with a group of willing participants!
10. Having A Bonfire
Smores, anyone? There are lots of places around Calgary – such as Fish Creek Park or Sandy Beach – that allow visitors to utilize their fire pits. With the right group of people, throwing a bonfire can be really fun!
