Hey, thanks for sending in this question!
Doing homework can feel like a chore, especially when it’s something you’re not interested in. It can be hard to make yourself finish your homework, but what motivates you may not be the same thing that motivates everyone. You can make a goal for yourself, such as, if you finish your homework in a certain amount of time, you can treat yourself to something you enjoy, whether it be a 15-minute break to play on your phone, or a sweet treat. Removing all distractions from your study space could also make it easier for you to focus on your homework and get it done. Sometimes the only way to complete a task is to just buckle down and finish it up. You could also attempt to make homework more of a team effort by asking friends in your classes to do the homework with you, so all of you can contribute and share ideas. But in the end, it’s really up to you finding something that motivates you to want to finish your homework, whether it be an external deadline or a gift you’re giving yourself at the end.
You also mentioned that you’re feeling too numb to do your homework. If you can, try to reflect on what factors might be contributing to you feeling that way. Have you told anyone you trust about how you feel, and if you have, have they been supporting you sufficiently? If not, maybe consider talking to someone you trust about feeling this way. If you ever need the support, please chat or call in to us here at ConnecTeen so we can talk about what’s going on.
