What you need to know about coronavirus (COVID-19)

At this point most of us know about COVID-19, its symptoms, and most importantly the rapid spread of it. During these times we rely heavily on the news and social media to stay informed. Being aware of how to stop the spread of the virus is important as we can help protect our loved ones and the vulnerable people around us (ex: people who are immune compromised, seniors). Therefore, please practice social distancing, try to stay home as much as possible, and practice proper hygiene.

Be careful of how much information you absorb because being constantly surrounded by the media frenzy is not the best thing you could do for yourself. Turn your phone, TV, and radio off for a while! Furthermore, make sure you keep up with reliable and helpful sources, as many reports or claims could be baseless and irrelevant.

During this phase, please don’t forget to take care of yourself and most importantly your mental health. Being at home for long periods of time can be boring and adjusting suddenly to this situation could take a toll on your wellbeing. My advice is to stick to a routine and have a to do list. Try to wake up at your usual time and follow through with your list of tasks. Take time to stay on top of your online school routines and updates. That said, don’t feel that you need to be productive all the time. This is a stressful time for everyone and it’s okay if you’re having trouble being as focused or productive as you usually are.

Make sure you check up on your friends and loved ones who you would see otherwise. A Facetime call, Skype call, or simple text message can mean a lot to the people close to you. As hard it might seem, try to embrace this moment and take the extra time to relax, watch your favorite movies, or go for a long walk.

During this difficult time in the world, I believe it is important to address the issue of coronavirus with our ConnecTeen community. Most of the information in this blog post is probably repetitive and you’ve probably heard it many times already. Above anything, I want this blog to remind you that we are here to listen to you and simply be there for you during this difficult time. Please feel free to reach out to us through a phone call, text message, an email, or online chat.

Here are some important links I recommend keeping up with:

Lastly, I hope that you are healthy and safe during these tough times in the world. Let’s try to beat this and do our bit to flatten the curve!
